💎 Rarity Guide
Understanding card rarities helps you identify valuable pulls and build your collection.
Pokémon TCG (Japanese rarity codes)
Japanese cards print a short rarity code next to the card number (bottom left), e.g. SAR on 201/165. The codes differ from the English names, and they change by era. Our card search shows the rarity as our data source (TCGdex) names it, which is usually the English name in brackets below. Every card in the search is also labelled JP (Japanese release) or EN (English release).
Every era
C — Common (コモン)
The most plentiful cards in a pack.
U — Uncommon (アンコモン)
One step above common.
R — Rare (レア)
The regular rare slot, one per pack.
RR — Double Rare (ダブルレア)
Pokémon ex (Scarlet & Violet and MEGA) or Pokémon V (Sword & Shield) with the normal card frame. TCGdex: "Double rare".
PROMO (プロモ)
Promotional cards with their own numbering (e.g. SV-P, M-P), from events, magazines and product bonuses — not from booster packs.
Scarlet & Violet and MEGA (2023–)
AR — Art Rare (アートレア)
A regular Pokémon drawn as a full illustration by an artist. English name: Illustration Rare.
SR — Super Rare (スーパーレア)
Full-art Pokémon ex and full-art Trainers. English name: Ultra Rare.
SAR — Special Art Rare (スペシャルアートレア)
A special full illustration of a Pokémon ex or a Trainer — the chase cards of modern sets. English name: Special Illustration Rare.
UR — Ultra Rare (ウルトラレア)
Gold cards. English name: Hyper Rare. (In Japanese, "UR" is the gold card, not the English "Ultra Rare".)
ACE — ACE SPEC (エーススペック)
Powerful Trainer cards you may only put one of in a deck. TCGdex: "ACE SPEC Rare".
BWR — Black White Rare (ブラックホワイトレア)
Special rarity of Black Bolt (SV11B) and White Flare (SV11W), 2025.
MA — Mega Attack Rare (メガアタックレア)
A new rarity introduced in MEGA Dream ex (M2a, Nov 2025) (official page).
MUR — Mega Ultra Rare (メガウルトラレア)
Top rarity of MEGA-era sets. TCGdex: "Mega Hyper Rare".
Sword & Shield (2019–2022)
RRR — Triple Rare (トリプルレア)
Pokémon VMAX and VSTAR with the normal card frame.
SR — Super Rare (スーパーレア)
Full-art V/VMAX/VSTAR and Trainers. Alternate-art versions are called SA (スペシャルアート), e.g. ブラッキーVMAX SA in Eevee Heroes.
HR — Hyper Rare (ハイパーレア)
Rainbow cards (Sun & Moon and Sword & Shield).
UR — Ultra Rare (ウルトラレア)
Gold cards.
K — Radiant (かがやく)
Radiant Pokémon ("かがやく"), one per deck. TCGdex: "Radiant Rare".
A — Amazing Rare (アメイジングレア)
Rainbow-splash artwork, mostly of legendary and mythical Pokémon (2020–21).
CHR — Character Rare (キャラクターレア)
A Pokémon shown together with its Trainer (VMAX Climax, VSTAR Universe). Japanese-set exclusive.
CSR — Character Super Rare (キャラクタースーパーレア)
Full-art V/VMAX shown with their Trainer.
S / SSR — Shiny (色違い)
Shiny Pokémon (S) and full-art shiny V/VMAX (SSR), e.g. black Charizard VMAX SSR in Shiny Star V. TCGdex: "Shiny rare" / "Shiny Ultra Rare".
One Piece TCG
Bandai prints one rarity letter on every card. A booster's official rarity list shows the mix — e.g. OP-17 (世界最強の戦士): Leader 6, Common 45, Uncommon 30, Rare 26, Super Rare 10, Secret Rare 3, Special card 10, Treasure Rare 1, DON!! 4 (official product page).
Printed rarities
Leader (リーダー)
The deck's captain card — one per deck, with life and a different card back. Printed rarity L.
Common (コモン)
The most plentiful printed rarity; the bulk of every pack.
Uncommon (アンコモン)
Printed rarity one step above common.
Rare (レア)
Printed rarity R — the regular rare slot.
Super Rare (スーパーレア)
Printed rarity SR, foil. About 10 different SRs per standard booster set.
Secret Rare (シークレットレア)
The highest printed rarity in a normal set — usually only 2–3 different SECs per booster.
Promo (プロモーションカード)
Promotion cards (numbered P-xxx) from events, magazines, campaigns and some starter decks — not from normal booster slots.
Special versions
SP CARD (スペシャルカード)
A special-art insert version of an existing card (often from an older set), re-released inside a new booster with new art and an "SP" mark. It is not a promo.
Treasure Rare (トレジャーレア)
A special treasure-style version — typically one per booster set, and among the hardest pulls.
Parallel (パラレル)
An alternate-art version of a card with the same card number and rarity letter (e.g. OP01-120 Shanks has a regular print and parallels). Parallels are worth far more than the regular print.
Super parallel / Manga (スーパーパラレル・漫画)
The rarest alternate arts — e.g. manga-panel backgrounds or gold-signature versions. These are the grail cards of each set.
DON!! cards (ドン!!カード)
The resource cards every deck uses (10 per deck). Boosters and premium boosters also include collectible DON!! designs; special-art and gold DON!! versions sell on their own.
