Is the One Piece card market down? What Japanese sales say
The short answer
In Japan, yes, but less than the threads suggest, and not evenly. On Yahoo! Auctions the median One Piece card sold 3.8% below its 90-day figure over the last 30 days; SP cards and Leaders fell about 6%, Secret Rares held flat. Sealed boxes fell much harder: the average price Japanese shops pay for a sealed OP-17 box has halved since launch week, according to Torecamap. Cards also sell for about 0.8 times what shops ask, so the price tags overstate what you'd get.
What the "crash" threads say
"Almost everything is down — singles, sealed product, you name it," says a post on r/OnePieceTCGFinance around 1 Oct, adding that only top-tier cards are holding. Another, around 20 Sep, says graded slabs have fallen more than 50%. A third says an OP-17 box, priced in dollars, "sold for $480 during prerelease, it's sitting at $320 now." Reddit blocked us, so these are search-result snippets: signals, not facts.
In Japan, YouTube titles use 暴落 (crash), and the X account @otakarasan9 put the Japanese OP-17 box (世界最強の戦士, The World's Strongest Warriors) at ¥15,500 on 7 Sep, down from a post-launch high of ¥21,000. Not everyone agrees. By 24 Sep a Reddit weekly thread said OP-17 prices had "more or less settled", and on 2 Oct @komugichanex wrote on X that the real event for One Piece cards is next year (本番は来年).
The reasons given are reprints, oversupply, a normal post-release correction and money moving to Pokémon's 30th anniversary. Bandai's English news feed carries no reprint notice from 17 Mar to 2 Oct, and we found none in Japan for August to October. Product did come back: Nyuka Now logs JUMP SHOP (28 Sep) and Shimamura (15 Sep) lotteries for OP-17 and EB-03, and an Amazon.co.jp sale of OP-13 boxes at ¥5,280 on 25 Sep.
What Japanese sales say, by rarity
Shop price tags lag: shops reprice in steps, and our weekly scan last read them on 28 Sep, so a few days of asks can't show a trend. Sales can. For each card with enough sales of the exact version on Yahoo! Auctions, we compare the median of the last 30 days with the median of the last 90:
| Rarity | Cards with enough sales | Median sold change, last 30 vs 90 days |
|---|---|---|
| SP card | 66 | -6.7% |
| Leader (L) | 13 | -6.4% |
| Rare (R) | 17 | -3.7% |
| Super Rare (SR) | 40 | -0.6% |
| Secret Rare (SEC) | 23 | 0% |
| All rarities | 164 | -3.8% |
CardMochi data: Yahoo! Auctions ended listings for the same version, to 1 Oct 2026. Rarities with fewer than five such cards are left out of the rows but counted in "All".
The 90 days include the last 30, so the comparison understates a fall that began in late August. Leaders rest on only 13 cards; the SP figure, on 66, is the sturdier one.
The biggest falls
Across the 164 cards with enough sales, 79 sold more than 5% lower and 13 sold more than 5% higher. The median card sold for 0.8 times its shop ask (our 28 Sep scan). The falls of 35% or more sit mostly in parallel (alternate-art) cards, Leaders and SP cards from OP-11 to OP-16. The largest is a regular Secret Rare, though: the OP-12 Jewelry Bonney, ¥1,900 to ¥1,000 (-47%). The table is a selection.
| Card | Version | Sold median, last 90 days | Sold median, last 30 days | Change | Shop ask, 28 Sep |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Monkey.D.Luffy | Leader parallel, OP-16 | ¥10,250 (68 sales) | ¥6,000 (25) | -41.5% | ¥9,980 |
| Zehahahahaha! | parallel, OP-16 | ¥19,400 (63) | ¥11,200 (21) | -42.3% | ¥14,800 |
| Nami | Leader parallel, OP-11 | ¥8,500 (37) | ¥5,500 (15) | -35.3% | ¥5,980 |
| Edward.Newgate | SP card, in OP-15 | ¥10,240 (36) | ¥6,250 (12) | -39.0% | ¥9,980 |
| Monkey.D.Luffy | Leader parallel, OP-15 | ¥8,000 (32) | ¥4,900 (8) | -38.7% | ¥7,980 |
| Portgas.D.Ace | SP card, in OP-16 | ¥20,001 (35) | ¥11,525 (4) | -42.4% | ¥17,800 |
| Silvers Rayleigh | SP card, in OP-17 | ¥9,000 (64) | ¥9,500 (39) | +5.6% | ¥9,980 |
CardMochi data, Yahoo! Auctions sold medians to 1 Oct 2026; asks from our scan of 28 Sep. The Ace has only four recent sales.
The OP-15 Luffy shows why asks mislead: Yuyu-tei asked ¥7,980 for it on 28 Sep, while it sold for a median ¥4,900 over the month.
"Only the top end holds" half fits. The median Secret Rare held flat in our sold data. But onepiece-card-atari puts the average ask for the OP-13 Luffy SP, across two shops, at ¥2,180,000 on 2 Oct, ¥800,000 below its monthly high. Two shops' asks are thin evidence, but top cards can slip too.
Sealed boxes fell harder than singles
Toreget, citing Torecamap in a PR TIMES release on 21 Aug, put the pre-release buy price for a shrink-wrapped OP-17 box at ¥23,800 on 19 Aug, about 4.1 times its ¥5,760 list price.
| Set | Shop ask, 2 Oct | Average shop buy price, 21 Aug → 2 Oct | Yahoo! sold median, late Aug → late Sep |
|---|---|---|---|
| OP-17 | ¥14,800 | ¥20,000 (22 Aug) → ¥9,600 | ¥11,000 (24 to 30 Sep only) |
| OP-16 | ¥9,980 | ¥9,000 → ¥7,325 | ¥10,500 → ¥8,500 |
| OP-15 | ¥10,800 | ¥9,500 → ¥6,500 | ¥9,000 → ¥7,800 |
| OP-14 | ¥9,980 | ¥14,000 → ¥6,625 | ¥9,800 → ¥8,300 |
| OP-13 | ¥19,800 | ¥20,500 → ¥12,625 | ¥18,500 → ¥15,500 |
| EB-03 | ¥24,800 | ¥21,500 → ¥11,550 | too few sales |
Asks: CardMochi data and Card Rush, 2 Oct. Buy prices: Torecamap averages. Sold: Yahoo! Auctions ended single-box listings, checked 2 Oct.
Torecamap's buy prices fell between 15% (PRB-02, ONE PIECE CARD THE BEST vol.2) and 53% (OP-14) from 21 Aug to 2 Oct. For most sets the bulk of the fall came by 1 Sep. EB-03, the first Heroines Edition, is still sliding: ¥13,800 on 25 Sep, ¥11,550 a week later.
Boxes still sell above list: OP-17's late-September ¥11,000 is 1.9 times list.
Japan and the US are not the same market
The English OP-17 box followed the Japanese one down. Its TCGplayer market price was $290.16 on 30 Sep, down 14% to 28% depending on the start point: $339.00 on 19 Aug, or a $404.47 spike in the 22 Aug bucket. The Reddit "$480 to $320" claim points the right way.
Older English boxes diverge. From early July to 30 Sep, TCGplayer prices rose for OP-16 (11%), EB-03 (8%), OP-14 (4%) and OP-15 (3%). The oldest chase boxes fell: OP-05 9% and OP-09 5% on TCGplayer, OP-01 18% since June on PriceCharting. Windows and measures differ, so read this as direction only.
Releases now land within days of each other: OP-17 came out on 22 Aug in Japan and 28 Aug in English, against 28 Feb and 3 Apr for OP-15, and EB-05 and OP-18 arrive in English a day before Japan, per Bandai. English boxes cost far more: PriceCharting's ungraded price on 2 Oct was $332.22 for the English OP-17 box and $132.64 for the Japanese one.
What this means for you
None of this is a forecast, and it isn't investment advice.
- If you want to sell: price against sales, not tags. Our median card sold for 0.8 times its ask, and Japanese shops paid on average about 65% of Card Rush's OP-17 box ask on 2 Oct.
- If you collect: six of the seven parallels in our table sold 35% to 42% below their 90-day medians this month.
- If you hold: a 3.8% median gap is small, and the median Secret Rare didn't move, though single SECs fell. Holding for the 2027 events @komugichanex lists (the manga's 30th anniversary, the card game's 5th) is a bet on a story, not a dated catalyst.
- If you want to buy: recent prices are lower than in August, and more product is coming. EB-05 lands on 31 Oct and OP-18 on 21 Nov in Japan, per Bandai; lotteries go on our calendar. Importing into the US? A card retailer puts the duty on Japanese trading cards at 12.5% since 24 Jul; USTR's notice gives 10% or 12.5%.

Method and limits
- Asks are Japanese shop asking prices from CardMochi's weekly scan, last run 28 Sep 2026; they are not sales, and we don't read trends from them over a few days.
- Sold figures are Yahoo! Auctions ended listings for the same version, the median of the last 30 days against the last 90, updated 1 Oct. They cover only the 164 cards with at least three and six trusted sales. The 90 days include the last 30, so the comparison understates a fall that began in late August.
- The Yahoo! box figures come from a one-off check of the 200 most recent ended listings per set, not our data file. Early-October samples were too small to use.
- Card Rush had the OP-16 and OP-17 boxes in stock on 2 Oct, though our file listed them as sold out.
- We have no graded-card data, so the slab claims are unchecked. See how we price.
