Japan card market this week: sales cool, 8 Oct 2026
The short answer
Japanese card sales cooled again. Over the last 30 days the median Pokémon card sold 5.9% below its 90-day figure on Yahoo! Auctions, and the median One Piece card 10.5% below. Loose packs sold below the box's price per pack for 26 of 41 Pokémon sets. The 30th CELEBRATION Card Set goes on sale on 16 Oct.

What sold
The fall is broad: 210 Pokémon cards fell more than 5% and 25 rose that much; for One Piece it was 84 against 4. Because the 90 days, from 7 Jul, include the last 30, the fall against July and August sales alone is probably larger than these medians show.
Since 4 Oct our sales reader collects up to 400 ended auctions per card instead of 100, so medians on the busiest cards now rest on more sales than in our earlier posts. So One Piece's −10.5% here and the −6.1% in our One Piece market post (sales to 3 Oct) aren't directly comparable.
The biggest falls among cards that sold for ¥10,000 or more over 90 days, with at least five sales in the last 30:
| Card | 90-day median | Last 30 days | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pikachu ex (ピカチュウex), Start Deck 100 Battle Collection | ¥131,000 | ¥74,900 (6 sales) | −42.8% |
| Lillie's Clefairy ex (リーリエのピッピex), same deck | ¥39,800 | ¥27,250 (36 sales) | −31.5% |
| Portgas.D.Ace SP card (ポートガス・D・エース), One Piece | ¥19,450 | ¥10,700 (8 sales) | −45.0% |
| Zehahahahaha! parallel, OP-16 | ¥19,000 | ¥11,111 (19 sales) | −41.5% |
CardMochi data: Yahoo! Auctions medians to 5 Oct 2026. The Ace and Zehahahahaha! also fell in our One Piece market post.
The newest sets
On 3 Oct, 30th CELEBRATION was still led by its three unnumbered Mew, asking ¥398,000 to ¥598,000 and sold out. The reprints sell well under their asks: the Lugia asked ¥26,800 and sold for a median ¥18,400 over 364 sales, and the Charizard asked ¥24,800 against a median sale of ¥19,499 over 361. Our 30th CELEBRATION post has the full card list.
For OP-17 (世界最強の戦士), the lowest Japanese asks on 4 Oct were led by parallels such as the Shanks SR at ¥158,000 and the Luffy leader parallel at ¥118,000. We don't yet have enough trusted sales of these to say what they sell for.
Loose packs vs the box
For 41 Pokémon sets with at least five Yahoo! Auctions sales of single packs, a loose pack sold for a median 0.91 of the price per pack. 26 sets sold below it, 14 above and one at the same price.
| Set | Price per pack | Loose pack sold, median |
|---|---|---|
| Lost Abyss (ロストアビス) | ¥1,760 (box ÷ 30) | ¥800 (19 sales) |
| Black Bolt (ブラックボルト) | ¥1,240 (box ÷ 20) | ¥738 (10 sales) |
| Terastal Fest ex (テラスタルフェスex) | ¥1,680 (box ÷ 10) | ¥1,100 (80 sales) |
| Storm Emeralda (ストームエメラルダ) | ¥427 (box ÷ 30) | ¥600 (26 sales) |
CardMochi data, to 5 Oct 2026. Price per pack is Card Rush's single-pack ask where it sells packs (19 of the 41 sets), otherwise the box ask divided by the packs in the box.
A buyer can't check whether a loose pack has been searched (サーチ済み) for its hits, so the cheaper loose packs carry that risk.
What this means for you
If you're about to list a card: recent sales sit below the 90-day medians most price sites show. Price against the last 30 days.
If you've been waiting to buy One Piece parallels: sale prices have fallen fastest there. Check a card's recent sales before paying a shop's ask.
If you're tempted by cheap loose packs of Black Bolt or Lost Abyss: they cost much less per pack than a box at auction, but you can't know whether they've been searched.
If you want the Card Set on 16 Oct: the Hobby Zone lottery (9 to 11 Oct) is one of the last open, and our lottery calendar lists any new ones.
Method and limits
- Sales: Yahoo! Auctions ended listings for the same version, medians over 30 and 90 days to 5 Oct 2026, for cards with at least 3 sales in 30 days and 6 in 90. From 4 Oct the reader collects up to 400 ended auctions per card (previously 100).
- Loose packs need at least five sales; price per pack as described under the table.
- Shop asks: the lowest in-stock Japanese ask per exact version, from our daily snapshots (OP-17 and M6a asks dated 3 and 4 Oct).
- Weekly shop-ask movers start once two comparable scans a week apart exist.
- Lotteries and releases come from our calendar, which links each shop's page.
